What the collected lab reports show
A plain-language look at the terpene data inside the TerpAlerts database: which dispensaries, products, and lab reports it covers, and what those terpene results do and do not tell us.
Read this before the numbers
- A higher number is not automatically better.
- A rare terpene is not automatically better, stronger, or safer.
- A missing lab report does not prove a product was never tested.
- A lab report here does not by itself prove a product is safe.
- These results describe the TerpAlerts database only, not the whole market.
- Individual experiences cannot be predicted from these measurements.
Ten most notable findings
- The snapshot holds 6,770 unique lab reports, and 3,077 carry a readable terpene mix.
- 17 operators across 609 locations, all in Florida.
- Readable terpene mixes are concentrated in about 8 operators. Trulieve and Sunburn supply many report links but no readable mix in the current data.
- The most common terpene is Limonene (88.01% of readable mixes).
- The most frequent leading terpene is Caryophyllene (47.5%).
- The rarest terpene is Nerol, in just 2 reports, carried by Insa.

Who is actually supplying the readable data
These few operators are why the rest of this report can say anything at all. If one of them changed how it publishes lab reports tomorrow, most of the numbers on this page would move.
Plain answerA lab report is like the receipt that comes with a product. A small group of dispensaries staples that receipt to almost everything they sell. Most of the rest hand you the product with no paperwork.

How to read itTwo different things are being counted here, and a shop can be great at one and terrible at the other. % linked is how often a product has any receipt attached at all. % with mix is how often that receipt actually had the terpene numbers printed on it, rather than just being a link to a page we could not read.
What it does not proveA low score does not mean the lab skipped the test. The numbers may sit in a file format our reader cannot open yet, or be printed on the store menu instead of inside the linked PDF. Missing paperwork is a gap in what we can see, not proof of anything about the product.

The two ends of the range, and what is behind them
A plain guess at why they differ, not something this data can prove: an operator selling flower, vapes, concentrates and prerolls will naturally produce more varied reports than one selling mostly a single format, and operators using more than one lab pick up differences from the labs themselves.
Plain answerSome shops sell basically one sandwich over and over. Others run a whole deli counter. This score tells you which is which, using terpene results in place of sandwiches.

Numbers behind itThe spread score runs from 0.2032 (Green Dragon) up to 0.3717 (MÜV). A zero would mean every single one of that operator's reports came out exactly the same. A one would mean no two of its reports look anything alike. Everybody here sits much closer to the sandwich-shop end than the deli end.
How to read itBigger number, more variety on the shelf. A shop near the top has products that test very differently from one another. A shop near the bottom keeps landing in the same flavor neighborhood batch after batch. Top-3 variety % is a second way of saying the same thing: out of every 100 reports, how many had a top-three terpene lineup nobody else in that shop's pile had.
What it does not proveVariety is not a grade. A deli is not better than a great sandwich shop, and neither one is safer. A wide spread can simply mean the shop sells several product types, sends samples to more than one lab, or had an unusual run of batches. None of that is quality.

A handful of terpenes turn up in almost no lab reports at all. Below is the full list of the least common ones, followed by exactly who carries them and in which products, so "two dispensaries" is never left as a mystery.

Who actually has the rarest ones
A dispensary is named here only when its own product listings carry the terpene. That matters because a few operators share the same generic lab-portal link (see section 11), and going by the link alone would credit a shop with a terpene that only its neighbor actually lists.

How to read it% of mixes is how many readable reports mention the terpene at all, even in a trace amount. Think of it as how many recipes list a pinch of saffron. Being on the ingredient list is not the same as being the meal, and here these are always the pinch, never the main course.
What it does not proveRare is not the same as special. A rare card is worth money. A rare terpene is not automatically better, stronger, safer, or more desirable. And a terpene missing from a report does not prove it was absent from the plant. It may simply have been below the amount the lab bothers to print.

How to read itBiggest means the single largest terpene by amount in that one report. A terpene can be on almost every report and still hardly ever be the biggest, the same way oregano is on most pizzas and is never the reason you ordered it.
What it does not proveThese are counts of what labs printed across a whole database, not a description of any single product on any shelf. None of it says how anything will feel, and a topping being common does not make it important.

Average every one of an operator's lab reports into a single "usual recipe", then hold two recipes side by side and ask how alike they are. A score of 1 means the same emphasis on the same terpenes. Lower means they lean on different ones.

Why each of those came out on top
Most alike: Goldflower and Sanctuary Cannabis, scoring 0.9891 out of 1
Read the two rows top to bottom. They lead with the same terpenes in nearly the same proportions, which is the whole reason the score lands so close to 1. Two kitchens both making a heavy-garlic sauce. Why that happens is not something this data proves, but the ordinary explanations are unremarkable: overlapping brands on both menus, a similar mix of flower and vape products, and cultivars that are common across the whole Florida market.
Least alike: Curaleaf Florida and MÜV, scoring 0.3904 out of 1
Here the two rows disagree about what belongs at the top, which is what drags the score down. Again the likely causes are dull rather than dramatic: different in-house brands, a different balance of product types, and different labs reporting the panels. It is a difference in what gets listed, not a verdict on either one.
Most consistent chain: The Flowery
Even the odd store out is almost identical to the chain average. That is exactly what you would expect when every location is stocked from the same grow and the same production runs, so it is a statement about supply chains, not about quality.
Widest rare-terpene coverage: Insa
Carrying more of the uncommon terpenes usually just means an operator publishes fuller lab panels, so more of the small stuff gets printed. It is a paperwork advantage showing up in the data, not a better product.

How to read itA score near 1 means the two operators push the same terpenes in about the same proportions. A low score means they emphasize different ones. The near-perfect within-chain numbers are the least surprising result on this page: the same company stocking its own stores from the same supply should look almost identical to itself.
What it does not proveCooking alike is not cooking better. Nothing on this page names a best, worst, safest, or highest-quality operator, and two shops matching each other says nothing about how either one's products perform for anybody.

The category gap, in one line each
The pattern is about how each product type gets sold, not how it gets made. Flower and vape buyers are shown terpene panels as a selling point, so those panels get published. An edible is sold on dose and flavor, so the terpene table rarely makes it onto the paperwork even when the batch was fully tested.
Plain answerFlower and vapes come with terpene numbers most of the time. Edibles and topicals almost never do. It works like nutrition labels: a bag of chips lists every last thing, a restaurant meal usually lists nothing.

How to read it% with mix is how often that category's report links actually carried terpene numbers we could read. The gap between the top categories and the bottom ones is enormous, so any comparison of edibles against flower in this report is really a comparison of paperwork, not of plants.
What it does not proveThin terpene data for a category does not mean those products are untested or unsafe. Testing and publishing are two different steps, and this data can only see the second one.
Batch and time trends
Evidence: current product snapshot
Among the 896 products that show up under more than one lab report, batch-to-batch differences run from nearly identical to almost completely different (full lists in technical.json).
The two extremes, by name
Both are normal. A plant is an agricultural product, and two harvests of the same cultivar can test differently for reasons nobody did wrong: weather, plant age at harvest, drying, how long it sat before the sample was pulled.
Plain answerTest the same product twice and you do not get the same answer twice. Same as coffee from one roaster: same name on the bag, slightly different cup each time.

How to read itA large batch-to-batch distance means two runs of the same named product tested quite differently. A small one means the grow is landing in the same place every time.
What it does not proveThis is ordinary variation in a farmed product, not a sign that anything went wrong. Working out when batches changed, and why, needs the full history table this snapshot does not include.
A note on time: the site watches more stores every month, so recent weeks look busier than older ones no matter what the market did. Growth in our counts is not growth in the market.

Numbers behind itTerpene total against THC scores 0.0292 in a straight line (basically nothing) and 0.4547 by rank (weak). Every price relationship sits near zero.
How to read itThese scores run from -1 to 1. Zero means the two things have nothing to do with each other, like shoe size and favorite color. One would be perfect lockstep. The biggest number here is weak: closer to "taller people tend to weigh a bit more" than to a rule you could count on.
What it does not proveEven a strong score would not prove one thing causes the other, and a lab percentage cannot be turned into an expected experience. Nothing here says terpenes change THC, change price, or change how a product feels.

Operators with large menus but almost no report links: FLUENT, GrowHealthy, One Plant, Planet 13 Florida, Sunnyside. That most likely reflects how those menus publish data, not proof that anything went untested.
Plain answerThe paperwork behind this data is uneven. Some shops publish clean, complete reports. Others publish a link that goes nowhere useful. And a few links are like one phone number for a whole apartment building: hundreds of products point at it, so there is no way to tell which report belongs to which product.

Limitations and responsible interpretation
- This is a current snapshot of Florida menus, captured over a few minutes while the site kept updating.
- A readable mix depends on the report format the parser handles. A missing mix is unknown, not proven absence.
- One report link counts as one document, so a few generic links hide many real documents.
- Exact test dates, weekly growth, and the parser's success flag need a direct database connection (
scripts/coa_research_report.py). - Nothing here ranks products or dispensaries by quality, safety, or value, and nothing here predicts how a product will feel.
Technical appendix
- One COA document is one canonical report URL (scheme, host and path; query and fragment removed).
- Terpene names canonicalized with the site's own
flmmtc.terpenesmodule. - A readable mix is a canonical URL with a nonempty canonical profile (max value per terpene across shared listings).
- Operator rankings require at least 30 valid mixes; locations at least 20. Below that threshold is marked preliminary.
- Profile spread is the mean of (1 minus cosine similarity) over normalized mixes.
- Correlation is Pearson (straight-line) and Spearman (rank), reported and never causal.
